Delusions of Grandeur...

I know it isn't great to walk around thinking you are smarter than everyone else... I know, really I do. But... what if you are?!

Rod has been cranking out fevers 101.7 and above for going on 9 days now. On day 5 I forced him to go to the doctor. When we arrived the nurse triaged him and hearing about his back pain and fevers asked him for a urine sample. She suspected a kidney infection; smart girl!

The doc came in and asked all sorts of questions, to most of which the answer was no (sinus pain, sore throat, cough, runny nose, etc.). We came to the conclusion that the major symptoms were headache, back pain, & fever. The doc listened to his lungs which were clear and ordered a chest xray...

at this point, I was bursting at the seams! I asked if he had gotten the results of the urinalysis back yet... he was clueless? What urinalysis?! He looked in the computer, saw that none had been ordered, and decided not to order the simple, inexpensive test because Rod didn't have any "urinary symptoms." We mentioned dark urine a week or two ago... he ignored it and ordered the chest x ray which he suspected would "turn up nothing."

He was right! The chest xray was clear... Rod was diagnosed with an elusive virus and told to come back if his fever persisted 2-3 more weeks! WHAT THE FUCK?! Is he kidding?! Hasn't he seen House? He needs to get his diagnostics team around a white board and work this shit out. I cannot care for a one year old and a 33 year old and maintain my own sanity at the same time... NOT. COOL.

So, the fever persists, the back pain increases, a light tap to the kidney sends shooting pains throughout Rod's body. He obviously has a kidney infection. Master diagnostician that I am... I am sure of it. Too bad I don't have prescribing rights. Turns out just being smarter than everyone else doesn't count for much.
